Teaching Tips
  • The animal names featured in this activity were pulled from the Animal Welfare Institute’s list of Endangered Animals. The names have been simplified for the purpose of this activity, but it would be helpful for students to learn the full names of the animals.
  • It is important to note that the concept of endangered animals may be difficult for some students. Be sure to check in and provide a safe space for students to share their feelings related to this topic.
  • Consider providing nonfiction texts to the classroom library for students to learn more about endangered animals.
  • This activity can be used for independent work or in a Word Work or Science center.
  • Name and Picture cards from Option 2 can be posted around the room for a Write the Room activity.
  • There are multiple options provided. Use the version that works best for your students.
  • It will be helpful to preview the words with students before releasing the activity for exploration.
