This guide provides teachers with potential learning paths known as Earth Systems Investigations (ESIs) to augment students’ interest in and comprehension of scientific topics. ESIs are broken into a three-dimensional sequence: science and engineering practices, cross-cutting concepts, and disciplinary core ideas. This sequence is designed to provide a solid framework for instructional design that is customizable to fit each classroom’s needs.
The Climate Literacy and Energy Awareness Network (CLEAN) Portal was launched in 2010 as a National Science Digital Library (NSDL) Pathways project. It is led by the science education expertise of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Science (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder and the Science Education Resource Center (SERC) at Carleton College.
