  • The words "climate change" are not mentioned in this book. Page 20 simply says "But drilling for natural gas can harm the environment."
  • This book is meant for young readers. The tone of this book, however, is pretty upbeat. There is a cartwheeling girl on page 4 and a smiling boy on page 23. Make sure it is clear with your students that burning fossil fuels like natural gas causes climate change. Be sure to address this topic in an age appropriate manner.
  • People have significantly higher positive associations with the term "natural gas" compared to other terms like "methane" or "methane gas." You can read more in this article from the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication. It is important to remember that word choice matters. Some people use different terms, including methane, methane gas, fracked methane gas, fossil gas, or simply gas.
