Earth's Energy Resources: Oil Energy

Ask a Question

  • This 26-page digital book by Epic! explains the basics about oil as an energy source.
Teaching Tips

  • This book explains oil in a very simple manner.
  • In Epic, you can track daily reading, student logs, assignments, and quizzes.

Additional Prerequisites

  • You must create a free account as an educator to access this book. Students can be added to your class using a class code.
  • The words "climate change" are not mentioned in this book. Page 18 simply says "Burning oil creates pollution."
  • This book is meant for young readers. The tone of this book, however, is pretty upbeat. There are two pictures of smiling girls next to images of a gas pump, cars, and a lawnmower. Make sure it is clear with your students that burning fossil fuels like oil causes climate change. Be sure to address this topic in an age appropriate manner.

  • Students can click any word to get an audio pronunciation and a definition.
  • The bolded words are defined in the glossary at the end of the book.
Scientist Notes
This short book puts the process of using oil to create power into very simple terms. While the full explanation is of course more thorough, this basic explanation is correct. This resource is recommended for teaching.
