Synopsis
- In this approximately 45-minute activity, students are introduced to climate change and draw pictures of things that are important to climate change and the environment.
- Students share their artwork, then participate in a guided discussion connecting their drawings to climate change concepts.
- This activity was designed for students in Nunavut, but is widely applicable.
Teaching Materials
Preparation:
- Gather the following materials:
- Paper
- Markers
- Pencil
- Crayons
- Tape or glue
- One large piece of craft paper or Bristol board
Differentiation:
- Adapt the discussion questions as needed, depending on students' familiarity with climate change concepts.
- Some of the ideas for brainstorming and the discussion questions are specific to Nunavut. Adapt for other locations by guiding students in thinking about things in their local environment.

Extensions:
- Students examine how the environment is interconnected by trying to find connections between all of their drawings.
In this activity, students will consider the environment and how it is impacted by climate change. They will also express their thoughts about the topic through art, which can help them identify their feelings about climate change. While the activity encourages students to think about and discuss the climate and environment, it does not include much information about these topics. Links to additional resources with this information are included. The information presented is accurate, and this resource is recommended for teaching.
