Teaching Resources for Spanish Teachers - English

Do you struggle to find resources for your Spanish-speaking students, or resources you can use in your Spanish class? As a former dual-language science teacher, I often found it difficult to find quality science resources and hands-on activities in both Spanish and English for my students. SubjectToClimate has curated various resources that will not only engage your students, but also educate them on the science of climate change. En-ROADS Climate Solutions Simulator

In this En-ROADS simulation, students will be able to examine the connection between global energy sources and greenhouse gas emissions. The activity can be completed in 12 different languages, including Spanish, which makes it a great activity for a World Language class. It can be used across multiple subject areas such as science, social studies and math. Combating Global Warming Mind Map

Students will love this beautifully illustrated climate change mind map. The mind map includes information on how individuals can do their part to help fight the climate crisis. The mind map is a great tool to use for ELL and ESE students, or for students that need visual assistance for comprehension. Liz Hadly Tracks the Impact of Climate Change in Yellowstone

Biointeractive offers various engaging science activities for students of all ages. In this activity, students will learn about the impact of climate change on Yellowstone ecosystems. This resource includes a 7-minute video by scientist, Liz Hadly, explaining how increasing temperatures caused by climate change are affecting the plants and animals of Yellowstone National Park.  

Student activities are included in English and Spanish, with transcripts for students who require visual aids. The website includes multiple related activities on the topic of climate change and its effects on the environment. This activity can be integrated into middle and high school science and environmental science lessons.

Steve Palumbi & Megan Morikawa Study Coral Reef Damage in American Samoa

Grade: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th

In this video, scientists Steve Palumbi and Megan Morikawa discuss the damage being caused to coral reefs due to rising water temperatures. The scientists study coral reefs around Ofu Island in American Samoa and research how exposure to warm waters causes coral bleaching and death.

A student activity sheet is linked with comprehension questions and graphs for students to analyze and show their knowledge of the video and coral reefs. A video and accompanying materials can be accessed in both English and Spanish, so this activity would be great to use in science and language classes.  A Google resource folder with the activities can be shared with students and other educators.
